Ways to Collaborate with UCLA Samueli School of Engineering

• Business Contracts

  • • An alternative to traditional sponsored research agreements

    • Ideal for already-developed materials, devices, testing services, processes, etc. that do not involve intellectual property

    • Agreements are straightforward and usually require minimal negotiation 

    • Reduced facilities and administrative (F&A) rates, currently at 39%

• Gift-funded Engagements

  • • An obligation-free method to engage with world-class faculty and talents

    • Donors may specify the area of interest or specific research topic that they would like to support, but there are no contracted deliverables or intellectual property 

    • Not subject to facilities and administrative (F&A) assessments.  A 6.5% gift services fee will be deducted by central campus for administering the award.

    • Highly successful campus organizations, such as the Science Hub for Humanity and Artificial Intelligence, have resulted from such philanthropic activities.

• Industry-Sponsored Research Agreements

  • • Traditional method of collaboration with UCLA researchers

    • Negotiation process can be long due to extensive, stringent terms and conditions (i.e. IP)

    • Generally requires assessment of the full federally negotiated facilities and administrative (F&A) rates, currently at 57%
